Nail Day

Goodness! I can barely believe it!  I TRIMMED NAILS today!!!!   All 9 puppies had their front nails done!  Just no polish! I waited till they had just had all the dinner they could take then while they were real sleepy.  Snip snip snip. Nothing to it !  It is all about the timing!  Otherwise it is an impossible task plus it has to be bright daylight.

Here is what I do… I take a pair of people toe nail clippers. They are easily handled and put my “readers” on  hold the puppy with my left hand and with my left thumb and fore finger take the paw and put pressure on it so the nails extend out. Then I take the nail clippers in my right hand and snip the nail ends being very careful to not get the nail into the quick. I have found the this works best for me the clippers are perfect for the job they cut the small nails and are exact so that I do not get the nail into the quick. On the white nails one can see the part that needs to be cut they look  much like a finger nail that is growing out white, the black nails are a tad harder to see.

You ask, “Now why does a 1 week old puppy need its nails cut?”  Amarillo said to take a look at the scratches on her milk buckets and tummy from the sharp razor like nails. Many Momma dogs will not be good Mothers and with hold the milk because of the pain. This happens many times because the owner might not know any better.  They have to be done once a week. Sometimes I even file them a bit!

Next Wednesday will be worming day!
