I just came in from feeding all the stock and the dogs…yes it is kinda late…
It has been warm and rained most of the day. You know the kind of day that if the sun had come out at all it would have been steamy.
As I started down on the Gator… BOO and Abilene ran along playing their game..Montanna was in the seat beside me, Drover on the floor and Amarillo on the back.
The ducks were first and happy for it! I checked the sheep and they were all eyes! They eat grass so no feed for them! As I started back up towards Momma’s I noticed that like breathing on a cold glass there was a sudden light fog in the air! Faint but there for sure. It made me breath the night air in deeper and appreciate the smells in the air. The grass had a very clean good smell, and then there was the faint woods smell. And rain on the grass. It looked like tiny diamonds here and there as it glistened . I slowed down and let all my senses drink in the night. The sky still overcast had big white puffy clouds and some dark ones as well. The crickets were singing softly but not urgently. Four English Shepherds ran ahead and on either side of my Gator all happy with tails curled and high in the air. Course one was on the Gator with me tonight Amarillo!
We made our way up the driveway lined with Magnolia trees toward the pond with trees reflecting in the dark water, and on across the dam where stood two pretty Paint horses waiting quietly for their supper! Tuff and Goodnight (after Charlie Goodnight famous cattleman) Amarillo kept her seat while the rest of the dogs explored around on the bank of the pond. I fed the horses and headed back towards the house. Bounce, bounce, tails held high! A sniff here and there! Nothing out too exciting on this night… yet!
