Wood Smoke…

Today our neighbor Clay Trotter (he is a potter) came over and cut wood for us.  We had 2 red oaks that fell during the summer and they made great wood for our wood stove.

The smell of wood smoke on a chilly evening brings back so many memories.

Carrying in wood for the fire. Cutting wood . Of just being in the woods . Grandma parching peanuts on the stove, and Grandpa sitting back reading the Quarter Horse Journal. Of snow, and sleet and no power but being warm and toasty and having a big pot of beans on the stove! Of cold mornings and dressing by the wood stove! Oh how good that heat feels!

Today my English Shepherds enjoyed the work as much as I do being made warm by the wood! They ran and played happily. They rode the Gator! Montanna in her seat ! Then off to chase who knows what and dig and dig! Smells everywhere to investigate! Oh they had great fun! I expect they will dream good dreams tonight and sleep well!

I love the smell of the leaves and the woods. The chainsaw running sounded good! The birds were talking about it all too!

Now the rain has set in and I expect a fire will need to be laid by morning. It was in the 70’s today. But tomorrow will be different!

My porch is full of wood and so is my place along the end of the house! Now that just plain feels good!

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed getting the wood in and how good the fires will feel when I need them! Plus that wonderful smell of wood smoke! One other thing I love is to see the smoke coming up out of the flue! Oh I so love the country life!
