At least tonight I do…
Today was the puppies first big outing, and Duck Herding Test! (see latest videos on our Video Page)…
We started out by all the puppies going with me to turn the sheep out. All 9 puppies and my 6 grown dogs went along ! That was easy!
We then started towards the pond and the shallow end where the bank is perfect for the puppies to climb! They all took to the water like ducks! This is a fearless bunch!
Then on to the duck pens and arena to introduce the puppies to the ducks. They saw the ducks and said “Yeah!!! This is what it is all about!” They had a ball! The ducks have a very different opinion I am sure! The puppies were amazing in the 50 x 100 foot duck arena. I have a friend suppose to help with the official test next week and I was just introducing the puppies to the ducks today.
The puppies kept the ducks gathered right off the start. I just watched. In the video you see Drover assisting (yeah right he was wanting to work the ducks so bad). None of my dogs have worked in a couple of months and all seem ready to go to work. It was a beautiful day!
After being down there for a hour or better the puppies started to whine and lay down. They were tired and thirsty. So back up the hill across the big field we trudged. They were give out and tired! It was a big event!
These are very solid puppies, afraid of nothing! Not even flapping duck wings and pecking ducks or being run over by ducks . I am very pleased!
So tonight while they sleep soundly and happily in their warm safe bed with Abilene looking over them. Their little feet will start to twitch and then move like they are running, soft little sounds will come out of their throats and as their faces and bodies move and they moan, I know! I know they are herding their ducks on their farm. Living life to the fullest at that moment! The smells make their noses wiggle, and the sights delight their eyes, as they dream big, big, Puppy Dreams of Herding Ducks!
