Drover’s Stock Dog Journal…

Last night was rough! What can I tell you…

Most everything went the wrong direction…The sheep, Kay, Me !!!

We have a new fence area in the pasture for the sheep. They are not use to the gates. The Gates are in different locations and that confuses the sheep. Not me ! I know to bring the sheep to Kay! As I proved last night.

Okay we did not start out in the dark! If all had gone well we would have been fine. But the sheep did not want to come to Kay she was at the wrong place in the sheep’s minds.

So she called “Sheep Sheep Sheep Sheep!”  They just stayed where they thought they should be, so finally Kay sent me.

Now, I went up and brought back 7 sheep. Then 3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 2 …okay you get it…there are 36 total and it was dark and the grass is high and there is a hill and the things scattered.

Kay would say easy, wait, stay, and I did pretty good! Those sheep were fast and it was hot and tiring.

I got all the Girls and their lambs up except for one lamb, it thinks it ought to stay with the sub prime sheep …but we finally got the girls and the lambs to the barn, I was give out! Kay was aggravated but not at me. She said I was a good dog and I believe her!

We went back down and the rest of the flock went in easy like and we fed them too. All was well.

I did scare Kay …I fell off the Gator…I was sitting in the front seat (how does Montanna manage that !?!) and I just fell off…No bump or fast movement..That’s when Kay said I scared her out of 10 years! What ever she means by that! I was so tired! And to tell the truth The Good Lord kept me from being run over by the Gator tires! Kay said it and I know it! Tell you what I will keep riding on the back of the Gator from now on, Montanna can have the front seat!

This evening those sheep were not a bit of trouble, though they do not understand the routine yet…They will! And I am getting to understand what Kay wants and needs me to do!  I like that a lot!
