What do you do when it 100 degrees in the shade and 11:00AM?
I worked Drover and Roscoe ( a heeler I am training for farm work) this morning. Along with 5 puppies….Just on sheep for a few minutes each. Testing the puppies for instinct.
Instinct is that natural desire and ability that they are born with (no training will teach it) to go up to the sheep in this case or ducks and move the flock. The desire and grit to go to the head and or heels of the flock . All of these puppies have it. It is what you do with it. Some are keener than others.
Stetson will make a great cattle dog I believe. Wrangler and Roper should do wonderful with sheep.
Durango and Justin will work but will be happy doing what ever they end up doing.
Rockey will make a great therapy dog I think or a great friend and companion. He is a nice sweet boy!
They all are nice and sweet and good puppies.
Some times folk think that they have to work. Stetson and Roper need to the rest will be happy where ever they go.
I took the puppies to the creek this afternoon. They jumped into the water and swam and swam and splashed and played! They got out on the big rock sat and jumped back in! My what a time they had! They are Amarillo’s puppies! She loves the water as does Abilene their Grandma! Drover even swam some! He is not so thrilled with water but even he thought the cold water felt good!
We walked up the creek a ways there is no running water now, my this heat has worked on that! The puppies followed me in the water, ripping and running swimming and jumping! Even walking the foot log! Silly pup! They were tiring out and we headed back to the gator….
The puppies loaded back on the Gator and rode back the mile to the house in their crate, they were tired and quiet and happy and cool!
Email me if you are looking for a good puppy! I still have a few…
