All Dogs…

English Shepherds are a very unique breed. They have been bred to help on the farm and to be the Farmer’s right hand, extra helper, protector of stock and his family. They herd, play, love, look after, keep in order, hunt, and so many other things.

I believe because they have lived so closely with their families for so long and were bred from dogs  (some say 2000 years ago) that lived so closely with their master …That is the reason they have these unique qualities to do so many things seemly from instinct.

Now I am a simple country person, and can not hold the kind of learned conversation that many can on such a subject. But I can tell you what I know, see, understand and yes feel.

I have six English Shepherds. They are all different in many ways. But they all have that knowing spirit. They understand beyond a doubt what I say most all the time, and yes how I feel.

Drover (my heart dog) and I have worked the stock enough that he knows what I want and need him to do, or not do. He finishes my sentences so to speak. Expects to be right with me  24/7.

Abilene is a big talker! She is all ways telling me something a very vocal girl! Just now she came round while I loaded the wood stove and looked at me and I knew she needed time with me Just ME…she is snoozing on the floor beside my chair as I write this.

Amarillo has a silly grin and a funny tail wag. What a sweet dog she is so pleasing!

BOO is my serious dog with the big light brown eyes,  so much said with those eyes!

Montanna is my girl. Getting older too fast. She has moved inside and has the most funny sighs at night, and she snores! as she sleeps on my old pillow on her bed.

Then there is sweet little Timber. What a sweet joyous spirit she has! All ways having fun. But cares deeply what I think. She will be interesting when she grows up.

All my dogs are a very important part of my life. All are just happy to be with me.

We have a big week coming up with the Larry Painter Sheep Camp starting Saturday. You know I do not even worry that they will not be good hosts! For I know they will …

I hope and pray and do all I can so that future generations will have these wonderful dogs just as they are now to enjoy and work, love and play with!

What good companions and friends! How lucky I am to have them!
