Jan Masters has Dakota a female puppy from the first Abilene / Dallas litter.
I told her she would be work but worth it! (she has been everything and then some more of what I promised Jan!) SMILE! Also I said that by the age of 2 Jan would start having AH HA! Moments! They started about 14 months of age if I remember correctly.
Anyway Jan sent this to me this week… and said I could share it!
“I had another “a-ha” moment with Dakota. I was working in the yard this past weekend. Had bought some herbs and were potting them. The empty bag of plant dirt was blowing in the yard. I pointed to where the bag was and told Dakota to go get it for me. She went to bag and looked at me and just told her to bring it back. She picked it up and brought it back to me. Now – she normally doesn’t retrieve things for me (except a Frisbee or toy). She had no clue what a “bag” was. And only went to a direction that I pointed to. But put 2 + 2 together and figured it out. What a smart dog!!
But then – gotta tell another one on her. Don’t know exactly how smart she is. I sit in the floor at night and throw a racquetball around. It bounces all funny and she catches it. It rolled by the recliner and was on the side of the chair. Maggie’s carrier was in front which was preventing her from getting the ball. So – I told her to go around the chair and get it. She looked back at me with a look like – “Well I don’t think that will work but I will try it anyway”. She trotted across the room to me and went around me and then back to the chair. (Go around is a command we use in Frisbee all the time.) I started laughing so hard she forgot all about the ball. My stomach was hurting I was laughing so hard. She eventually went around the chair and got the ball.
What fun it is having a dog!”
