Today was interesting!
It started with Drover and I going up to let the sheep out.
I had stalled the ewes I thought might deliver n one stall together for warmth instead of dividing them up for lots of room. I checked and no lambs in either stall. Good! so I let them out!
Then I went to the stall with the weathers and the Churrios! Looked all was fine and I turned them out! As the last few came out there was the tiniest white lamb! Now how in the fire did it belong to?!
Drover had to re gather all the sheep and bring them back to the barn to pen so I could figure out who Momma was!
The lamb was still wet and I knew it would freeze to death like the one the morning before if I did not do something fast. So I found some old dog blankets and wrapped it up in them and then took my coat off and laid it in side it and soon enough the lamb snuggled down and was warm.
I figured out it was Churrio lamb (a ram lamb!) ! Momma;s first lamb and she had no clue what she had done!
So back into the stall we worked to get her in! Drover did his job and I did mine and in process the Churrio with horns tried to ram Drover and hit the door of the stall instead! My hands were in the door Think hand in car door as you slam it shut! Ouch and yeah it hurt in a mean sort of way! 😉
I put together a jug for the ewe and her lamb and put dog bedding in there and blankets all over it sides and top! They had body heat and a way to trap it! I dried the lamb off real good …Put the new Momma and baby the jug and shut the gate! I gave her hay and feed!
We put all the sheep out and then our electrician came by and put up some light fixture and fixed things that did not work! He and Les worked most of the day!
One of the boxes had Styrofoam packing and Les put it in the wood stove. Guess what happens ? It makes a gas and BLOWS up! Les has a new singed hair cut on one side of his head and all the hair is burnt off his hands! LOL! He is fine but I looked out the window and said Oh No! The yard is on fire! (I did not know what had happened) seems it blew out the pipe some liquid fire that went all over the very dry grass. Did I mention the wind?! I ran out bare foot grabbed something ( turns out it was a car wash brush the new one) Yelled at Les who had this funny lost look on his face! I said “The yard is on fire!” He said “What? ” Look behind the stove! Well by now the fire was picking up speed and heading for the woods! Les broke a pine tree down and started beating the fire out as I worked with the new car wash brush! I burnt a fairly large area! But we got it out!
I had a puppy leave for New York shortly there after and all my BOO puppies have been placed! 1 Abilene female to place…..
The lights look good! and I am ticked to have them up! It has been 6 months of waiting!
The day ended peaceful enough! Just checked the ewes and I will be surprised to not find baby Lambs in the morning!
I laughed so hard at Les! He was so surprised looking! (once I knew he was not hurt!)
Just living in the moment here! And that is enough! Sufficient for the day is the troubles there in!
