Journey is all the best things from Drover and BOO rolled up into one handsome, intelligent, biddable package. He is an incredible herding dog who has won multiple High In Trial awards in his short trialing career. He works on the farm with me daily—gathering sheep, sorting them, demoing for folks here for lessons, and even helping young dogs out when necessary. While we cannot trial in AKC since he is an ES, he does great work as a set-out dog during the AKC herding trials I host here at Maple Grove Farm. He’s had judges comment on his superb behavior during these trials and his obvious focus on the job at hand. He is a great sheep and duck dog. In fact, up until his first trial on ducks, he had never seen a duck before much less worked one. I knew he had the groundwork and mind that it takes to work ducks, so I entered him on them. He came away with a respectable 94 (out of 100) on ducks that weekend. This dog’s ability to instinctually switch gears to work whatever stock I put him on is incredible.
Outside of his herding abilities, he is also a wonderfully pleasant dog to be around. Journey is friendly to new folks coming onto the farm and their dogs alike, but will alert if something is out of the ordinary and he knows it. He’s a great trail riding dog, and a wonderful swimmer. He loves running errands, like going to the feed store and seeing all the folks in there—greeting them when allowed. He’s just a good, solid, level headed working English Shepherd. I’d take a million more just like him.
