A Promise of Spring

This afternoon was gorgeous! Just a perfect spring kind of day! Soft warm breeze, blue blue sky, sun shine, warm, birds singing and crickets doing their cricket song!

About 2:30 I was caught up enough to take a short ride on my Paint horse Texas. Les rode Tuff and Larry a friend of ours rode Drummer.  We left the tack room and headed up “My Road” YES!!!!!!!!!!   Finally it is passable and still there like it has been for over a 100 years, just minus the surrounding forest. There is one lone surviving Dogwood tree! Texas seemed pleased to be on the trail again after a long winter’s rest.  Up to the top of the mountain then over to the field Grandpa cleared some 50 years ago. (No whispers today!)  But oh what glorious scenery! The ancient mountains in the distance the field up close and the sun streaking the sky through the few clouds on the horizon. Breath taking and I can no way describe what I experienced with my eyes or my spirit.  Montanna and Abilene accompanied us and were very excited to be along! Off in the distance you could see Grandma’s house and Pap’s barns. And my uncle’s cows grazing quietly. Up on the mountain there is a 300 degree view of the mountains and valley. The rest is of a real hardwood well kept forest. It is about perfect!  Over my left shoulder I saw a Hawk flying and lifting on the breeze. Wow!

We took the horses along the trail to Jackson Creek that goes through a laurel thicket. Then down to the creek and Boobie Dog’s Swimming Hole aka “Brake Bender” by the 4 wheel crowd. We crossed and watered then went up the other side of the creek to where I use to cross as a girl and then over to the path Grandpa and I traveled so many times. Up by Clay Trotter (our local potter) and then back across by the rock that has a fossil on the face of it and then back down by my brother Kenneth’s property and across the Rogellia’s property and back down “My Road” to the house!

What a nice ride! My what an indescribably beautiful after noon!
