A Simple Saturday Evening…

Les and I went to a benefit supper at a local church this evening.

We had a very nice visit with people we knew and some we just met…

An older gentleman was talking and telling jokes and clearly enjoying the fellowship of everyone…

He sat down and started talking to Les…I asked a few questions…he was hard of hearing…he told us some funny stories that made us laugh and he shared some encounters with some of my kin folk…

The thing that struck me was his last few comments…He said he and his son (that just turned 40 years old)  who was not at the supper because he was not feeling good and on oxygen…and had to have shots twice daily had just purchased 300 acres of land and were in the process of cleaning the land up for farming…but he was not sure how they would be able to finish…If his son did not get better. I asked “Oh what is wrong with your son?” …”Cancer”  he said…We talked dogs Border Collies and English Shepherds and farming a bit more…then Les and I went home.

I have thought about this for several hours… 40 years old and cancer…I pray to God the young man recovers.

But this has made me think about life and living…and Christmas…what and how I should be living… in each moment…What is good and needful…what helps…who and what is important…How it is good to take an inventory of my life and see that I am on the right path…to make sure I have not took a fork in the dark by mistake…

For all this gentleman’s troubles and concerns for his son…The gentleman had a peace that was in his face and I could hear it in his voice…”That peace that passes all understanding”…That no matter what…It is well…

This was a blessing to read… My parents are on their way to see your beautiful pups now. Good to know they’ll be visiting with folks who consider the will of God! He really is the Good Shepherd…
