Amarillo…my sweet sweet girl

Amarillo is 8 years and 4 months old. A beautiful black and tan girl out of Abilene and Dillon.

Anyone that has met Amarillo is impressed with her sweet disposition and easy gentle ways. But she is tough enough to work cows ….

She has been tough on possums and coons, a wonderful trail dog, my camping buddy, calm and friendly to all, watchful, loves the pond in all seasons, loves to sit in a chair, a wonderful herding companion and help, and all round great English Shepherd…

About 7 months ago I noticed a hard place on one of her teats (it had been there for 4 years)…and thought nothing of it…much…because she had a bad scar there and I figured it was just the scar tissue becoming harder… and she was getting older…I watched it and it seemed fine.

In November I noticed it had changed and we went to the Vet. He said it was mammary gland cancer and we could try and remove it but it would likely not cure the cancer (the tumor seemed attached) and surgery would buy her 90 days maybe. I chose to leave it alone and not put her thru surgery and the healing process of a place in that area that would likely be difficult to heal.

Two weeks ago the tumor started to spread on her tummy…As I write this we are likely in the last hours of her sweet life.

She is not doing well…But is still eating and on pain meds…

Please keep us in your prayers.

My heart is broken and I know this is part of life…But it is the hard part…Filled with tears …tears of love, sorrow, some regret, and what if, but I know I made the right decision and in the end it is all the same out come.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your love for all your animals…all animals in fact, shows in every post and message. May God hold you and Amarillo in His hands as you take your last steps together, till you meet again. We will keep you in our prayers.

This is terribly sad, she is so young to go, but the course is set. That she is your buddy shows in the photos. I feel your pain, and hope that the good memories will shine through in the future.
