A Day At Maple Grove Farm…

Our day began at 4:00 AM ! With Ms BOO barking at something in the driveway. It was a bark of “I am going to get you and you best be running!” I have never heard this bark before. Anyone that has lived with their dog for any length of time understands what I am talking about. A dog has a different sounding bark for different things and situations.  BOO has a its an opossum bark, Cat bark, another dog bark, Coyote bark, Geese have landed bark, I mean business bark! etc!!!

I have no idea what she was barking at but whatever it was was not saying anything back and she was in hot pursuit! She had been busy all night every hour on the hour…I am hoping “it” learned the lesson…BOO is on duty!

It is nice to have a dog that will alert and protect…Not just nice but very necessary.

I was up with the sunrise…Sounds like I get up early…I had a lamb on the wrong side of the fence and Momma and the lamb were having quite a fuss! By the time I pulled on my boots and had my ear muffs and fuzzy house coat, herding stick and Drover heading down to fix the problem the little rascal had slid back in through the fence squares . They were all happy. Drover and I talked about it and decided to let the flock graze in our yard where the grass is green and tender. The ewes were very happy with our decision! They grazed quiet and contently for hours.

I decided to attend the duck/chicken sale. No ducks today!

BOO spent the day catching up on her beauty rest!

I went to town and mailed the calendars! Checked out my favorite consignment shops, had a biscuit and headed home.

The afternoon was spent in herding lessons and KAT and Elvis did awesome!

I took Larry Painter’s advice KAT is not a yard dog…she goes with me to work (Yes we still have fun)  But she is serious and happy to work the sheep and listen to me.

Today she helped get the flock up and then sorted the sheep so we had stock to work during our lesson. She downed well! And is starting to gather like Drover !

As the sun set over Steeprock and the pond…Drover, KAT , and my puppy and I sat on the stoop and watched God work. It was an amazing, beautiful sunset! Some of the most beautiful blues for the background and then gold, pink, red, and purple for the clouds. The mountains were dark purple. The crescent waxing moon and a planet were visible at sun set and added to the canvass !  It was all breath taking and beautiful!

Les cooked on the grill…Today was very mild for here in the 60s and a bit windy…still very nice weather.

Tomorrow is “Ground Hog Day” ! Lets hope this weather stays with us right on into spring!

Heading to bed now…Hopefully BOO will not have a reason to be up all night guarding us. But instead will be sleeping with both ears open and one eye open! Ready to do her job if needed!
