Simple Country Pleasures…

Rain…Wind…Wind…then softly more rain…

I rose early to take the sheep out of the fold to the far pasture for a day of grazing.

As I started out… It took my breath…a slight chill in the air and the dampness…the beauty of our over night suddenly green world. The light fog on the pond, the grey beauty of the clouds over head. The pitter patter of the rain on the pond…All in shades of grey and in this new wonderful green world.

The fog on the mountain and along the creek…marking the creek’s path.

The field in front of the house is green and growing! The clover blooming and the smell of it is heavenly! The terraces are full of clear clean water…

So I pulled on my tall green rubber boots… that fit right to the bottom of my pajamas legs…they are pink with sheep on them…my outfit was perfect with the addition of my long hooded coat with big pockets. I grabbed my herding stick from the gator and Journey and I were off to enjoy our morning with the sheep.

As I let the sheep out of their night time fold one silly black lamb “Tippy” went the wrong way and stayed inside of the fold. There is a large round bale of hay and I knew that Tippy would be difficult to reunite with the others because it is a lamb…and the bale of hay…I asked Journey to stay… He did and watched the flock as they headed on across the dam. “J ”  carefully watched the lamb and did as I asked in his quiet easy way…only the lamb was excited and not sure that he should be because how easy and quietly “J” and I worked together to move the lamb…the lamb did not panic…and to let “J” and I know he poinged thru the gate like on a pogo stick to show us he was not afraid…

And snap your fingers just like that the lamb was out and headed for it’s Mama!  Wow! Quiet work…with a simple plan…confidence in my dog…and myself…now I have it…watch the sheep…not the dog.

Though it was still raining quietly on the pond…it is a glorious morning to be out and alive… as the sky clears the clouds are so low  between here and Grandma’s house you can touch them like in the mountains when they roll in…it is a magical experience not had here often.

The wild ducks that raise on our pond just flew in…they are difficult to see because they blend so well with the surroundings…birds are singing…oh what a night! a bit of wind is picking up…

Peace to all who read this…all is well…God is in his heaven and all is right with the world.
