I was in the house and heard a lamb (we only have one) and yes I pretty much know my ewes by their voice…It was stressed and I knew something was wrong…
Drover and I went to see what we needed to do…to help.
The rest of the dogs were out and had to stay at the gate… I did not need more stress on the lamb…and the sheep know Drover well.
KAT Ballou was having a fit to go too…But I told her to stay. One of the puppies went along…The grass is waist high…and the puppy thought it was a great safari…as first. Then decided to go back he had enough of the jungle and tangle…But not before the two of us fell out of sight in a terrace…I jumped what I thought was the terrace and the pup went too…but there was no bottom. Ouch! We were fine…But it was a jolt!
Then KAT Ballou appeared. Yes she had scaled the gate! Not a smart thing to do…I sent her back to the gate in no uncertain terms…She understood my command…
(I would deal with her after Drover and I took care of the lamb)
That Drover he is something…He gathered the sheep and took them to the lamb that was in the pen area…He gathered and drove the flock all on his own. There was no need to tell him what to do. He knew !
When I got to the pen some how that silly lamb had gotten into a closed holding pen all on her own…But was unable to get out! I opened the gate and she joined the flock …Peace was restored …Drover took the flock back to the field…
We checked the sheep water and filled the tank…KAT Ballou had let herself out of the field! All the dogs were sitting pretty and waiting for us.
Drover had done his job without so much as a necessary word from me!
What a dog!
