We had a good slow steady rain last night. As the sun came up the fog rose from the fields. It is unseasonably warm. The sheep were turned out into the yard and on to the fresh green grass. They were having a wonderful time by the sound of the bells ringing!
I fixed breakfast and sat at the window and watched the lambs: some sunning their grass full tummies, others laying stretched out and still eating, and some in search of their Moms. I am amazed by the good mothering instincts in the Ewes. They call for their lambs if out of sight or go look for them! The lambs that are shoulder high and on their knees nursing (my oldest lambs were born in December) I see several ewes on watch . They watch the sky, and the surroundings. It is an amazing family unit!
After several hours of eating grass the flock all laid down and are chewing their cud and or sleeping.
What a beautiful site and sound all the bells softly tinkling as they rest.
