My Cousin…David

Growing up in Jackson Creek there were not many children close by to play with. On Sundays we would all gather for a meal at Grandmas after church at Piney Grove UMC and then the afternoon would be spent playing in the barn , or fields and down by the creek.  Of course for some of us that meant ridding ponies and horses!

My cousin David Delk  was about 8 years younger than me and he loved to ride ponies and horses. He was good at it too!

When his Daddy was discharged from the Army they came home to the farm and had a house trailer above Grandmas house  for a few years I think… We spent the summers playing and doing all the things children do in the country…I remember it was all ways hot …we did not have TV or AC !

Long afternoons spent in the shade of the maple trees …or in the barn with Grandpa.

For some reason Delks do not stray far from their beloved community of Jackson Creek.

David was no exception. He and my brother Kenneth were big buddies thru the years.

David married a local Asheboro girl Susan and they worked side by side in business and raised their family (2 boys) in Jackson Creek.

I remember their wedding and reception vividly 31 years ago…Grandma and I went. It was a beautiful wedding and they had a champagne  fountain!  (We had never seen such a thing) Grandma and I got a bit tipsy and we had a great time!

David was a blond haired good looking boy…And had a good life…

It tragically ended Sunday the 2nd of August about 6:00 PM …To say he will be missed is a an understatement. His wife , 2 sons, brother and Daddy are hurting bad…So are all the members of the Delk Family and I am sure Davids friends are as well…

Please keep all of us in your prayers .

David will be laid to rest Thursday in the Piney Grove UMC grave yard…In the company of many of his ancestors.

This is a sad hard time for our family…

a favorite song sung by Alison Krauss and sums up how I feel …
