Precious Memories… Grandma…

I ate a fresh cucumber today with my tomato sandwich…and the smell of the cucumber almost made me sick…I had to pause a moment and think…(I love cucumbers) …

That smell reminded me…

I suppose the first memory of my Grandma was when I was two years old…I was crying as my Mother left me with her for the night… while Mama worked… I did not understand…I just wanted my Mama!

Then I remember being upset by something around 4 years of age and Grandma putting me on her lap and feeding me homemade (no sure gel)  Blackberry Jelly and homemade biscuits with real homemade butter…boy if that did not get your mind off whatever was wrong you were in serious trouble…

I smile as I remember Grandma, and Grandpa getting ready to go somewhere…

Of Horse Sales and Dog doings, cow sales and whatever made my Grandpa happy…you went and enjoyed it in your way.

Me playing at the branch where the pond is now, and you and your Mother ( my Grandma Nancy) telling me to watch out for snakes…

When I hit the side of a pot after stirring the food  I think of you…when I see a pretty garden I think of you…a big beautiful fern I think of you…zinnias and marigolds you Grandma…I say things you said…Every day I do or say something and think Lyde! I think like you in many ways…the practical things you did that now I do…

My mind is filled with so many precious memories of : hot biscuits, jelly, weenies and gravy, quilts, sewing , gardening… swinging,  going to town, going to Denton, going to the local store …for a coke and peanuts. The Women’s Society, Church…

Your kindness to neighbors, your giving (until it hurt you said) , your love for my Grandpa.

Your goodness, but most of all your love for your family…

Grandma I am very blessed to be your granddaughter…and so thankful for your influence on my life…

The life you lived, the love you gave… the path you walked, until the very night you went on to be with The Lord…

Precious to me…and more precious still to the Lord!
